Scope, sources and corrections
How this site works
What gets included, where it comes from, how people's work is described, and how to fix anything that's wrong. I'd rather be precise about this than have anyone guess.
What's in scope
The centre of this site is Ricci flow and the Poincaré and geometrization conjectures: Hamilton's flow, its solitons and singularities, Perelman's methods, and the topology they prove. Around that centre is a deliberately small wider circle: the geometric flows that share Ricci flow's methods (mean curvature flow, curve shortening, Yamabe flow and other curvature flows), and geometric-analysis meetings where Ricci flow people take part. Anything from the wider circle is labelled as such — Wider flows on papers, Related on events — so the core never gets buried. General differential geometry is out of scope, however good it is.
Where the information comes from
- Papers come from the arXiv API after every arXiv announcement. Titles, authors and abstracts are shown exactly as arXiv has them, and every title links to arXiv. Topic tags are assigned automatically from titles and abstracts, so a tag is a pointer, not a judgement about the paper.
- Events come from official calendars and moderated meeting lists, checked by a script every week, plus meetings added by hand after checking the official page. Anything unconfirmed is marked Tentative.
- Topic guides (36 of them) and concept cards were drafted with AI assistance at my request. Every reference in a guide is checked automatically against arXiv or Crossref, so titles, authors, years and links are exactly as published. The mathematical summaries are careful but have not all been reviewed by specialists; each guide says whether it has been.
- The journal is mine: my own words, and my own mistakes.
How people and their work are described
- Only public, work-related information: published papers, public talks, institutional pages. Contact details stay on people's own homepages and are never copied here.
- No rankings, scores or "top researcher" lists. Being listed reflects published work, not an endorsement by or of the person.
- Results are attributed to the people who proved them, as their papers state. If an attribution here is incomplete or unfair, that is a correction I want to make.
- If you are listed on the People page and would rather not be, or something about you is wrong, write to me and it will be changed or removed. You don't need to give a reason.
Corrections
Mistakes happen, especially in a site kept by one learner. If you find one — a wrong date, a misattributed result, a mathematical error in a guide — please tell me. I fix factual errors as soon as I can, and the page's "updated" date changes when I do. Specialists who review a topic guide are credited on it by name, but only if they want to be.
Independence
There are no ads, sponsors or affiliate links here, and nobody pays to be included. If that ever changes, this page will say so first. What visitors' browsers share with the site is described on the privacy page.
