Plainly
Privacy
No accounts, no ads, nothing sold. Here is everything this site does with information about you.
Analytics
I use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to see which pages people read and roughly where they arrive from — so I know whether anyone finds this useful, and what to write more of. It records things like the pages you visit, your approximate location (country or city, not your address), your device and browser type, and the site that linked you here. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses.
If you're visiting from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, where this kind of measurement needs your consent and I don't show a cookie banner, Analytics cookies are off by default. Google may still receive anonymous, cookie-free signals that a page was viewed.
You can opt out entirely with Google's Analytics opt-out add-on, or with your browser's tracking protection or a content blocker — the site works exactly the same either way. Google's own terms are in its explanation of how it uses data from sites like this one.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, processes your IP address to deliver pages and to protect the site from abuse.
Fonts and links
Text is set in fonts fetched from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google to download them. Links to arXiv, YouTube, university pages and journals go to those sites, which have their own policies.
What stays in your browser
A few preferences are kept in your browser's local storage and never sent anywhere: the light or dark theme you choose, the papers you save to your reading list, and the milestones you tick on the Path. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.
If you write to me
If you email me, I use your message and address only to reply. I don't add you to anything, and I don't share it.
Questions
Write to me and I'll answer.
