Almost & η-Ricci solitons

In briefVariations on the Ricci soliton equation: let the constant become a function (almost solitons), add a term along a contact form (η-Ricci solitons), or use another flow's self-similar solutions (Yamabe, Ricci–Bourguignon). Most results are rigidity theorems on special manifolds.

What it is

A Ricci soliton satisfies Ric⁡+12LXg=λg\operatorname{Ric} + \tfrac12\mathcal L_X g = \lambda g for a vector field XX and a constant λ\lambda, and so moves under Ricci flow only by scaling and diffeomorphism. Several generalizations keep the shape of this equation but give up that link to the flow:

  • Almost Ricci solitons (Pigola, Rigoli, Rimoldi and Setti, 2011) let λ\lambda be a function. Barros, Batista and Ribeiro showed that a compact non-trivial one with constant scalar curvature is a round sphere.
  • η-Ricci solitons (Cho and Kimura, 2009) add a multiple of η⊗η\eta\otimes\eta for a 1-form η\eta, usually the contact form of an almost contact manifold.
  • Quasi-Einstein metrics add a term −1m df⊗df-\frac1m\,df\otimes df; they describe warped-product Einstein metrics (Case, Shu and Wei).
  • Solitons of other flows. Yamabe solitons are self-similar solutions of the Yamabe flow; Daskalopoulos and Šešum classified the locally conformally flat ones. Gradient Einstein solitons (Catino and Mazzieri) are self-similar solutions of the Ricci–Bourguignon flow ∂tg=−2(Ric⁡−ρRg)\partial_t g = -2(\operatorname{Ric} - \rho R g).

Why it matters

Some of these objects matter for flows: Yamabe solitons model singularities of the Yamabe flow, and Ricci–Bourguignon solitons those of its flow. Quasi-Einstein metrics connect solitons with Einstein warped products. Many other papers in this area test how much of the rigidity of Ricci solitons survives when the equation is relaxed.

Where it stands

By paper count this is one of the busiest corners of the feed. A large share of it proves classification or non-existence results on particular manifolds (contact, Sasakian, Kenmotsu, paracontact, warped products, real hypersurfaces in complex space forms) by direct computation. Those results are usually local or algebraic and say little about Ricci flow as an evolution equation. This site tags them so that readers can find them, or filter them out; a tag is not an endorsement. For the solitons of Ricci flow itself, see Ricci solitons; for the contact setting, Sasakian and contact geometry.

Solitons on Statistical Manifolds and Their Submanifolds

Aliya Naaz Siddiqui, Bang-Yen Chen

Statistical manifolds, introduced by Amari in information geometry, carry a pair of dual torsion-free connections together with a Riemannian metric. In this chapter we survey the theory of statistical solitons, that is, vector fields and constants that solve the Ricci-soliton equation simultaneously for and , together with the statistical analogue of almost quasi-Yamabe solitons. We discuss two principal settings: (i) statistical warped products and for (pseudo) Riemannian manifolds and , where the soliton equation constrains the warping function; and (ii) statistical submanifolds of Kenmotsu statistical manifolds, where the position of the Reeb field relative to the submanifold and the presence of concircular or concurrent vector fields determine the Einstein, -Einstein or quasi-Einstein character of the submanifold. We further review the results of Blaga and Chen on gradient solitons and statistical structures, in particular the connections defined by a -form, volume formulas and bounds for the Ricci tensor. We also describe Chen-type inequalities for statistical warped product submanifolds, which give the extrinsic context in which such solitons live. Key steps of the proofs, remarks on the sharpness of hypotheses, worked examples, and open problems are included.

Direct proofs for spaces with cyclic parallel Ricci tensor

Fengyuan Zhang

We give direct proofs of rigidity results for gradient Ricci solitons, compact quasi-Einstein manifolds with boundary, and critical spaces with cyclic parallel Ricci tensor. For solitons and quasi-Einstein manifolds, successive traces of first-order pointwise identities yield quadratic equations for the Ricci tensor and its modification. These equations imply radial flatness and radial -flatness, respectively, and the corresponding global rigidity theorems apply. For critical spaces, comparison of two expressions for the Laplacian of the Hessian gives a pointwise tensor identity whose scalar contraction yields a weighted divergence formula. Integration then gives the vacuum static, CPE, and Miao–Tam conclusions. The same comparison also proves Ricci parallelism pointwise for solitons and quasi-Einstein manifolds.

Hyperbolic Ricci Solitons on the Unit Tangent Bundle of the Hyperbolic Strip

Amadou Sy, Ameth Ndiaye, Ghodratallah Fasihi-Ramandi

We study Killing vector fields, Ricci solitons and hyperbolic Ricci solitons on the hyperbolic strip endowed with the metric , and on its unit tangent bundle endowed with the Sasaki metric . On the strip, we show that the Gauss curvature is constant equal to , that the Lie algebra of Killing fields is isomorphic to , that every Ricci soliton is trivial (Killing potential, ), and that a -Killing field which is conformal, or which is the potential of a hyperbolic Ricci soliton with , is a Killing field. On the unit tangent bundle, we prove that the Lie algebra of Killing fields of is four-dimensional and isomorphic to , that is not Einstein but is -Einstein with constant coefficients, , and that admits no Ricci soliton. For hyperbolic Ricci solitons we prove non-existence for Killing, left-invariant, and -invariant potentials with conformal projection, and we reduce the general -invariant case to a system of equations on the strip; the classification for an arbitrary potential is left open. Finally, we show that the -Ricci solitons of have a Killing potential and , , and that the -hyperbolic Ricci solitons obtained in the same classes of potentials are the trivial ones, with a Killing potential, and .

Conformal Killing–Yano Ricci solitons: Structure, compatibility, and rigidity

Mohammadjavad Habibivostakolaei, Abbas M. Sherif, Yen-Kheng Lim

We introduce a geometric structure – a conformal Killing–Yano Ricci soliton (CKY–RS) – that couples conformal Ricci soliton (CRS) geometry to conformal Killing–Yano (CKY) 2–forms. The soliton field of the CRS geometry is given by the divergence of the CKY 2–form. We introduce a conserved CKY–Cotton current and derive a compatibility identity relating the Cotton tensor, the CRS obstruction tensor, and the CKY 2–form. In 4–dimensional Lorentzian signature, we show that, under non-degeneracy and closedness assumptions on the CKY form, a CKY–RS structure forces the conformal representative to be locally Kerr–NUT–(A)dS. For a closed non-degenerate CKY on a Kerr–NUT–(A)dS background, the conformal deformation is necessarily trivial. For Einstein backgrounds of arbitrary dimension and signature, the conformal factor satisfies an eigenvalue equation and an Obata–type Hessian equation. If the background is also compact or a CKY orbit is periodic, the conformal factor is an invariant of the CKY–flow and we obtain simple spectral obstructions to non-trivial CKY–RS structures. From the Hessian equation, we obtain obstruction and classification results for the non-trivial conformal sector, including product/Brinkmann geometries and a Weyl–aligned branch. Finally, we give explicit constructions for static spherically symmetric geometries and BTZ backgrounds, including a CKY–RS realization with a time-dependent conformally flat representative. These results provide a geometric framework for studying CRS with hidden symmetry structure, with potential applications to exact geometries in general relativity.

K-contact manifolds admitting some geometric solitons with Semi-Symmetric Non-Metric Connection

Bidhan Mondal, Nirabhra Basu, Arindam Bhattacharyya

In this paper, we introduce some type vector fields with respect to a semi-symmetric non-metric (SSNM) connection. We investigate several geometric properties of a K-contact manifold equipped with an SSNM connection and provide a concrete example to justify the relation between the scalar curvature of the SSNM connection and Levi-Civita connection that we have obtained in this paper. Furthermore, we have found the nature of Riemann solitons, conformal Ricci solitons and conformal -Ricci-Yamabe solitons on K-contact manifolds admitting a SSNM connection.\\ Finally, we determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for such a manifold to be -semi-symmetric, quasi-conformal-semi-symmetric and pseudo-projective-semi-symmetric.

Ricci Solitons, Almost Theta-Yamabe Solitons, and Finite-Order Tensor Symmetries of a Vector Field on Riemannian Manifolds with Rank-One Anisotropic Curvature

Abdou Bousso, Ameth Ndiaye

We study the iterated action of the Lie derivative on the curvature tensor of a Riemannian manifold with rank-one anisotropic curvature, whose Riemann tensor is expressed via the Kulkarni-Nomizu product as . First, we examine the conditions under which such a manifold admits a Ricci soliton structure and demonstrate that this property implies the almost -Yamabe soliton structure. Furthermore, we show that if the associated potential vector field is a symmetry of the Ricci tensor of a fixed order (i.e., ), the geometric problem reduces to solving a partial differential equation of order along the flow. Finally, under the assumption that is a conformal vector field () whose infinitesimal flow preserves the line distribution (with for ), we prove that several key geometric problems (such as establishing the relation , determining the minimal order for to be a Lie curvature symmetry, or satisfying for a continuous function ) are equivalent to a scalar differential problem governed by the operator .

Ricci-Yamabe solitons on the Lie group

Abdou Bousso, Ameth Ndiaye

In this article, we study Ricci-Yamabe solitons on the Lie group equipped with a natural left-invariant Riemannian metric, explicitly determining the vector fields that characterize them. We then deduce that, in the case of a Ricci soliton, it is expanding, whereas in the case of a Yamabe soliton, it is shrinking. Finally, we show that if this Lie group is a gradient Ricci-Yamabe soliton, the vector field belongs to , and we explicitly provide the Perelman potential.

Hyperbolic solitons on trans-Sasakian space forms and its submanifolds

Bidhan Mondal, Sibsankar Panda, Nirabhra Basu

Kong and Liu introduced the concept of hyperbolic Ricci flow in 2007 and used it to study the wave character of metrics. After that, many mathematicians have used this new geometric flow to study the evolution of manifolds and their structures. Ricci solitons and hyperbolic Ricci solitons are self-similar solitons of the Ricci flow and hyperbolic Ricci flow respectively. In this paper, we introduce the concept of hyperbolic Ricci solitons and hyperbolic Ricci-Yamabe solitons on a trans-Sasakian space forms and characterized the nature of some hyperbolic solitons. Additionally, we deduce the Ricci tensors of submanifolds of trans-Sasakian space forms and conformal trans-Sasakian space form and found the nature of solitons on submanifolds. Finally, we have included an example which will justify our result.

Diameter estimates and Hitchin-Thorpe inequality for four-dimensional compact Quasi-Einstein manifolds

Samuel Belo

We study compact -quasi-Einstein manifolds and derive geometric estimates relating the oscillation of the potential function to the diameter of the manifold. We obtain lower bounds for the diameter in terms of the oscillation of the potential function. As an application in dimension four, we derive diameter conditions ensuring that compact -quasi-Einstein manifolds satisfy the Hitchin–Thorpe inequality. Our results extend diameter estimates in smooth metric measure spaces and are consistent with known bounds in the limiting case corresponding to Ricci solitons. Finally, we provide a volume estimate involving the oscillation.

Characterizations of Almost Ricci Bourguignon Solitons

Mohammad Aqib, Hemangi Madhusudan Shah, Dhriti Sundar Patra

In this paper, we revisit the study of almost Ricci-Bourguignon solitons by clarifying their position in the broader context of Einstein-type metrics. Motivated by known rigidity results for compact almost Ricci solitons, we aim to identify conditions under which a compact almost RB-soliton is trivial or exhibits special geometric properties. We compare our results with classical theorems of Barros and Ribeiro, and explain explicitly how our work extends or complements these earlier findings.

Quasi-Einstein Metrics and a curvature identity associated with the Ricci flow

Atreyee Bhattacharya, Sayoojya Prakash

Quasi-Einstein manifolds are well-studied generalizations of Einstein manifolds. This includes gradient Ricci solitons and has a natural correspondence with the warped product Einstein manifolds. A quasi-Einstein metric is said to be rigid when it reduces to an Einstein metric. On a different note, Einstein metrics can be viewed as fixed points of the Ricci flow up to homothety. While gradient Ricci solitons are generalized fixed points of the Ricci flow, not much is known, in general, about the evolution of quasi-Einstein metrics under the Ricci flow. In this paper, we employ an identity associated to the evolution of curvature along the Ricci flow, to conclude the rigidity of certain closed quasi-Einstein manifolds.

Almost Gradient Ricci Solitons on Static Spacetime

Akhilesh Yadav, Tarun Saxena

The aim of this paper is to study geometrical aspects of static spacetime admitting an almost gradient Ricci soliton. Among others, We first determine the conditions under which the base manifold of static spacetime possess an almost gradient Ricci soliton and we show that the almost gradient Ricci soliton become steady gradient Ricci soliton when static spacetime turns to a vacuum static spacetime. Next, we exhibit that an expanding almost gradient Ricci soliton on base manifold of non-compact and connected static spacetime satisfies shrdinger's equation for a smooth function . Also, we find the soliton constant under which the static perfect fluid spacetime with almost gradient Ricci soliton holds the null convergence condition and the strong energy condition. Further, we study the almost gradient Ricci soliton on base manifold of static perfect fluid spacetime with potential function as warping function and it is shown that the base manifold of a static perfect fluid spacetime with an almost gradient Ricci soliton is an Einstein manifold. Next, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition on soliton constant to obey timelike convergence condition. Further, we obtain some results for Ricci symmetric and weakly Ricci symmetric base manifold of static perfect fluid spacetime admitting gradient Ricci soliton. Finally, we find the nature of almost gradient Ricci soliton on -dimensional half conformally flat base manifold of static perfect fluid spacetime.

Local structure of gradient almost Ricci solitons with harmonic Weyl tensor

Valter Borges, Matheus Andrade Ribeiro de Moura Horácio, João Paulo dos Santos

In this article, we investigate a gradient almost Ricci soliton with harmonic Weyl tensor. We first prove that its Ricci tensor has at most three distinct eigenvalues of constant multiplicities in a neighborhood of a regular point of the potential function. Then, we classify those with exactly two distinct eigenvalues. It is worth mentioning that the case with exactly one eigenvalue has already been settled elsewhere. Our results are based on a local representation of these manifolds as multiply warped products of a one-dimensional base, having at most two Einstein fibers, which we also obtain in this paper. These results extend a result by Catino, who assumes, in addition, that the Weyl tensor is radially flat, and a result by Kim, who considers the four-dimensional case.

Geometric study of non-constant vector fields making hyperbolic space Ricci-Bourguignon solitons

Mafal Ndiaye Diop, Abdou Bousso, Cheikh Khoule, Ameth Ndiaye

The objective of this paper is to deepen the study of vector fields on hyperbolic spaces that transform them into a Ricci-Bourguignon soliton. Starting from a recent work in which characterizes these fields as Killing fields of a specific shape, we propose a detailed geometric study of their structure and behavior in the dimensions and . In odd dimension we show that the dual form of these vectors are contact forms. This work aims to enrich the understanding of self-similar solutions of the Ricci flow in a more general context.

Complete gradient Einstein-type Sasakian manifolds with

Shun Maeta

Catino, Mastrolia, Monticelli, and Rigoli have launched an ambitious program to study known geometric solitons from a unified perspective, which they term Einstein-type manifolds. This framework allows one to treat Ricci solitons, Yamabe solitons, and all of their generalizations simultaneously. Einstein-type manifolds are characterized by four constants and . In this paper, we show that when , complete gradient Einstein-type Sasakian manifolds are trivial or isometric to the unit sphere. As a consequence, many geometric solitons on Sasakian manifolds turn out to be trivial or isometric to the unit sphere.

A Characterization of Quasi-Einstein Metrics

Antonio Airton Freitas Filho

We study the modified Ricci solitons as a new class of Einstein type metrics that contains both Ricci solitons and -quasi-Einstein metrics. This class is closely related to the construction of the Ricci solitons that are realised as warped products. A modified Ricci soliton appears as part of a special solution of the modified Ricci-harmonic flow, which result a new characterization of -quasi-Einstein metrics. We also study the modified Ricci almost solitons. In the spirit of the Lichnerowicz and Obata first eigenvalue theorems, we prove that in the class of compact Riemannian manifolds with constant scalar curvature the standard sphere with a structure of gradient modified Ricci almost soliton is rigid under some specific geometric conditions. Moreover, we display an example of modified Ricci-harmonic soliton.

Curvature tensors and hyperbolic solitons on Lorentzian trans-Sasakian space form

Bidhan Mondal, Nirabhra Basu, Arindam Bhattacharyya

Lorantzian trans-Sasakian space form is a special type of space form in which the nature of even and odd dimensional space form both exist. Various curvature tensors with respect to Levi-Civita connection on the space form are derived in this paper. We have shown that if an odd-dimensional Lorentzian trans-Sasakian space form admits a hyperbolic Ricci soliton and hyperbolic conformal Ricci soliton then they will be -Einstein. We also obtained the conditions for the solitons to be expanding, steady or shrinking. Finally, an example has been constructed which justifies the results obtained.

Almost Ricci Solitons on Class Hypersurfaces of Product Spaces

Ahmet Umut Çoraplı, Burcu Bektaş Demirci, Nurettin Cenk Turgay

In this paper, we study hypersurfaces in the product spaces for which the tangential component of the vector field is a principal direction, where denotes the three-dimensional non-flat Riemannian space form with sectional curvature , and is the unit vector field tangent to the -factor. We obtain a local classification of hypersurfaces with three distinct principal curvatures satisfying specific functional relations. Then, we determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for such hypersurfaces to admit an almost Ricci soliton structure with potential vector field . Finally, we prove that the only hypersurfaces admitting such solitons are rotational, by showing that the constructed examples with three distinct principal curvatures do not admit almost Ricci solitons.
